    # Wow! What a find!
These gorgeous rustic cottages are tucked away just a mile or so outside Tarbert, bustled on the edge of working farmland. These are more than self catering cottages they really feel like little homes away from home with all the amazing touches like fully stocked bookshelves, board games and candles. The friendly and helpful management team made sure we had everything we could need including delivering an upgraded hairdryer mid-stay - I can’t praise them enough!

We booked The Dairy for a week in August and were so impressed. The facilities within the cottage are great - modern kitchen including microwave, power shower and free laundry facilities in the nearby outbuilding. Clean, cosy and comfy. I can imagine in winter it’d be a great place to hole up for a week with a good book and a good bottle and just stay snuggled warm with someone special.

Outside of the cottages, the village is amazing. To access from the cottages either you can drive down the main road in 2-3mins or you can walk past the main house and through the ancient boulder strewn woodland to the White Shore footpath and then on in to the village (or alternatively turn left to explore White Shore and the wild lochside). It’s a little slippy in the rain but gorgeous and feels like a proper adventure.

I’ve been visiting Tarbert for 30 years and nothing much changes and therein lies the real charm of it. There is very little here, some fantastic little pubs and cafes, some touristy shops and galleries and a ruined castle but the real draw for us is the loch and the wildlife around it. In 7 days we managed to see - sea otters, swans, harbour seals, 2 types of jellyfish, all manner of seabirds and swans, an eagle, voles and small woodland mammals, sheep (right outside the door) and then rock-pooling we spotted shrimp, urchins, mussels, blenny, anemone, velvet crab, limpets, whelks, winkles and so much more.

    Top tips:
**Ask the locals to direct you to seal point (it’s not on the maps but it’s the best spot to see harbour seals at low tide)

**Make use of the nearby ferries to explore the islands.

**Climb to Bruce’s castle. Your knees will complain but it’s worth it for the view.

**Head out to Pier head past the monument to lost sailors and you’ll find a beach made entirely of scallop shells.

**Give yourself a day to explore the woods and the shore around the cottages.

**Go to the village chippy and have the haggis supper it’s the best I’ve ever had.

**Get up early one morning and enjoy the sound of the farm and woods waking up around you.

**check out the annual festivals, the village is alive at these times. There’s several through the year to cater to different interests.

**allow time to watch the sunset over the harbour. It’s so restful and rejuvenating.

TL;DR: Perfect for the ultimate restful get away. Close enough to the village to get supplies and enjoy the atmosphere of the pubs and cafe, far enough away for peace and quiet. Lots of wildlife. Friendly management. 10/10
